Wet pour rubber is a porous system that is mixed on site and poured into place to form a continuous bound together rubber surface that is both safe and durable. 1. Wet pour has a long life spam, which could help save money further down the line; all Soft Play Safety Surfaces come with a five-year guarantee on coloured rubber and three years on black.

7. VIRGIN EPDM – is a term used to emphasise that the granules are not recycled SBR.
8. EPDM – stands for Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer, which is synthetically manufactured rubber, formed in sheets and then cut into granules of varying sizes.
9. SBR - Styrene-butadiene rubber, which is former tyres, is environmentally friendly, as it is recycling, rubber from tyres and re-using them for black base in the surface.
10. Wet pour can be laid on almost any surface but if no hard base exists then excavation to reduce levels is required and a minimum 150mm depth of MOT type 1 stone forms the foundation.

Maintaining Your Wet-pour Safety Surface

Keeping the surface clean

It is important to keep your wet-pour surface clean, this can be easily done by sweeping the surface annually, sweeping off flowers, leaves and other detritus that may fall on the safety surface. This must be done before they form a mush that can be trodden into the surface; if it is left to rot and form a skin it can stop the surface from draining. Cleaning the surface with a weak solution of washing-up-liquid using a pressure washer or jet wash can help keep it draining and maintain the slip-resistance.

Stain Removal

Most stains can be removed with a weak solution of washing-up-liquid and water. This is safe to put on the service, always make sure it is washed off to maintain the slip-resistance.

Snow and Ice

Snow and ice are not harmful to the surface, brushes can be used to brush off the snow, but chemical agents should NOT be used on the wet pour safety surfacing.

Sharp Objects

Keep sharp objects away from the surface as this is not covered under your guarantee, any high healed shoes or chairs that could dig into the surface can cause holes and damage to the wet pour surfacing.

Hundreds of schools across the country shut their doors this week as the UK braved the heaviest snowfall for 18 years. Children were given more days off school because playgrounds were said to be too icy for children to play in.

More problems were faced for parents trying to arrange childcare as over 15 schools cancelled lessons, even with the improved weather conditions.

Eight schools were closed in Sutton, three in Tower Hamlets and Quintin Kynaston secondary school in St John's Wood was open only to older exam pupils.

Jo Shuter, the school's “Award-Winning” Headteacher, said younger pupils were being kept out of school for "health and safety reasons". The playground was too large for the school's staff to treat with its limited supply of grit, she said.

"Today we are open for the older exam children but we have got issues with our playground still being full of compact snow which has turned to ice," she said. "It is lethal for the kids as they will throw it at each other playing. They will hurl it around and there will be a terrible accident.

"There is absolutely no way that I would close a school unless I was absolutely convinced it was what I had to do. It is so easy for a kid to lose their eye if a bit of ice gets thrown at them."

Younger pupils - who are "not as sensible"- will be kept at home today until gritting contractors can come in to treat the playground areas, she said.

Also yesterday, more than 1,000 nurseries across the UK closed for a second day, leaving more than 500,000 children at home.

Boroughs said most schools were re-opening again today. However watch out and get prepared for Thursday and Friday’s weather warnings as it looks like we are in for more snow! Children’s safety is paramount in all this, keeping the playground safe, so even if it is that children have to stay at home at least they are safe from harm.
